Our Coaches

Alex Ward - Head Coach

What motivates you as a coach?
Being able to help people change their life for the better and achieve things they never thought possible is so rewarding! Being a coach is dead set the best job in the world.

Why do you CrossFit?
I love the feeling you get after training. A bonus is getting to experience that feeling with friends and our community, its honestly like no other.

What do you love most about CrossFit?
The community, since starting CrossFit over 5 years ago I have met so many people that inspire me to be better every day. I have met lots of people who I now call friends and spend time inside and outside the gym with.

Favourite Movement and least liked movement?
I love all CrossFit movements, If I had to choose one it would be the Snatch, it’s such a technical challenging movement. Least liked movement would have to be Sumo Deadlift High pull.

In your spare time where would we find you?
Spending time with friends and family. I love going to the beach and trying new things. You’ll also find me spending time by myself reading and learning new things to grow as a person.

Do you have a sporting background Pre-CrossFit?
Growing up I gave all sports a try, I spent the majority of my child hood playing Soccer, Cricket, Touch Football and raced Motocross.

What is your favourite music to work out to?
I like variety! I listen to all genre’s some of my favourite’s would be Rock, Punk, Drum and base and EDM

Brittany Smith - Coach

What motivates you as a coach?
I am passionate about coaching as I love seeing people step out of their comfort zone, seeing their improvement, and I love supporting and helping people to change their life and see the better in themselves.

Why do you CrossFit?
CrossFit has changed me as a person and my life. I am fitter, healthier than ever before. CrossFit has also helped me gain more confidence, make new friends and I am overall a lot happier and learnt so much. I do CrossFit because it is an amazing and fun environment to workout out in, the workout is already planned for you all you have to do is show up and give it all you've got. CrossFit caters for all levels from beginner to advanced, and even if you think you know it all there is always something to work on (e.g. technique of a movement, holding on to the bar longer, pushing yourself to go harder and
faster) this all leads to become a better you.

What do you love most about Crossfit?
I love the fact that in CrossFit you cannot get bored there is a different workout every day and doesn’t just repeat the same legs or shoulder drills every week. And I love the fact that no matter what level you're at from beginner to games athletes there is always something to work on or improve in.

Favourite Movement and least liked movement?
I have a few favourite movements in CrossFit and they would have to be Burpees, Handstand pushups, the Airbike and Overhead Squats. My least favourite movement would probably be Wall Balls or Cleans as they are my weakness, however, I am working on them and learning to love them.

In your spare time where would we find you?
I am currently studying to become a nurse, so studying, at the beach, or going for a run somewhere (as that is one of my weaknesses I want to work on) but most of the time in the gym.

Do you have a sporting background Pre-CrossFit?
Pre-CrossFit I had pretty much done every sport especially as a kid, I have participated in soccer, hockey, gymnastics, nippers, little athletics, tennis, and touch football I never really stuck to one thing as I use to get bored very easy, however, I danced and did competitive squad swimming from 3 to 16 they were the sports I seemed to love and stick to. My Mum introduced me to CrossFit when I was 16 and I absolutely fell in love with it, there is no way I could get bored and it is the fittest I have ever been.

What is your favourite music to workout to?
I love to workout out to loud upbeat music, it can be any type just has to be upbeat. Although when I am lifting heavy it has to be loud, heavy music cause let’s be honest the music sets the seen for the workout and who can lift heavy with quiet contemporary music.

How long have you been coaching for?
I completed my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate in March 2016, however, I have learnt many skills of coaching from the best as well as completing heaps of research most nights watching videos on technique or reading materials on energy systems. I am also looking to advance my knowledge and complete my Level 2 Certificate in the coming months.

Peter Tosen - Coach

What motivates you as a coach?
CrossFit can get a bad rap, people are hesitant to try it. What motivates me is to remove that sigma surrounding CrossFit and see people do the movements they thought they couldn't and start to really see their potential.

Why do you CrossFit?
I am a very passionate person particularly when it comes down to my recreations. CrossFit is an amazing way to stay fit and healthy. I've got 2 kids, CrossFit allows me to stay in great shape, be a good role model demonstrating that taking care of yourself is important and lastly, because it's fun to throw down with mates.

What do you love most about CrossFit?
I love being able to joke around in a friendly environment whilst getting super fit and healthy.

Favourite Movement and least liked movement?
My favorite movement is really tough to answer. I like so many movements but if I had to pick, maybe power cleans and muscle ups. As for my least favorite, that's pretty easy. Box jumps.

In your spare time where would we find you?
Spare time……ha ha ha ha that's funny. Let's change it to holidays (I'm a teacher). I'd be with my family, the gym, drinking coffee at the beach or maybe outdoors doing something active.

Do you have a sporting background Pre-CrossFit?
Before CrosFit I surfed a fair bit. I also have a background in rock climbing. I did this for 15 years to a fairly high level (get it haha) within Australia. Growing up at some stage I did most sports around.

What is your favourite music to work out to?
No real favorite, something with some base. Though a bit of thunder struck is always good.

How long have you been coaching for?
I’ve been coaching for one year now.
